Mike Craig is a singer-songwriter who released two LPs in limited runs in the early '70s. These have recently been rediscovered and are gaining an increasing number of fans. The first of the two, Stuck In Phoenix, was recorded at Arizona's Soundtech Studios in 1972, with another California transplant, Hans Olson, providing accompaniment. The album was well-received by local folk music fans, selling out in seven months, but received very limited airplay, due in part to the fact that the title song was about committing suicide. Because of the positive reaction to the first album, and because Craig was writing a great number of songs at the time, sessions for a second album were quickly set up. Daughter of the Moon was recorded at Desert Sound recording studio in 1973. Backing was provided by an all-female group, the Cantaloupe Island Band, who were brought in by the album's producers. By the time the recording was done, Craig, frustrated with the direction his music had been taken in, had severed all ties with this band, with whom he refused to tour. To make matters worse, much of the initial press of the album had a serious pressing flaw, leading Craig to cancel the release. Prior to this, the record plant had shipped out around 200 copies. Following this disillusioning experience, Craig continued to perform and made many more (unreleased) recordings, which he plans to make available in the near future.
